BLOGS AND ERRORS

I don’t like to go on a blog just to write back a comment. I always like to navigate on the entire pages, to discover the writer, to see the hobbies and the goodies they offer. Maybe this is why it takes that much sometimes to comment back. I don’t use to comment back for a little spam message, maybe just if I like the site, but most of the time those people have the worst sites.

I’ve already said this lots of times, but maybe I didn’t in my blog. Just in comments for those who needed this advice: When you have problems with codings, you should search for html-validation sites and they will tell you all the coding errors you have. Once they are solved, your site will work good in every browser. And you get more visitors. Sometimes I don’t have the nerves to switch to Internet Explorer, just because your site is not working with Firefox. I prefer to close your site and go to an other that works in Firefox too. Even if your content is much better, you can not prove it, because me and most of the people who use Firefox(or another browser) have already left your site.

I read last month on a site that most of the sites that are having “Enter pages” lose lots of visitors, because not everyone knows what is with that splash page. So I suggest to put your site directly on the index page. Maybe you have very good content and these Enter-pages aren’t helping on getting visitors. What do you think about splash pages? Do you have one or did you had one?

I agree entirely, I use Netscape way more than AOL (totally hate IE) and while Netscape is kinda like opera and Firefox, there are times when site layouts do not work, and I’m stuck having to use AOL to view the site the way the visitor wants it to be…. very annoying and can be to the many viewers who hate/don’t like IE… Also splash pages… when they are a cluttered mess it can take away a lot and you can loser visitors because they are left confused… and I’ve seen many that look a mess. They usually work out when its meant as a warning, like if the person is using iframes, has rated r content, etc…. or even when its something really simple with a small image that says enter… but to have it and fill it up with rotations, affiliates, cboxes and a small enter link is confusing/ugly…

awesome blog, about time someone mentions these things.

I don’t see the point of a splash screen. I still visit the site, but I’m thinking “okay, what was that for?”
And I think web developers should try to make their sites accessible to everyone.

Good luck with the revamp! My CSS isn’t working iwth the links and the validator didn’t suspect anything wrong with it… grrr

@Brittany: Actually, you have lots of errors. Go here and see how much you have.

Hey I thought I should warn you about the theme you are using, the original was stolen from this web site http://www.ndesign-studio.com/ all of the themes from that site you downloaded this one from are stolen. It may not look like it at first but the buttons are the same and so is the footer and design.. Don’t worry you didn’t do anything wrong just add credit to the other site and be sure to check that from now on who designed what.

I guess you eat italian food in the US because someone came here from italy and cooked italian food for someone here and they liked it so it started to become more and more popular..

Well, have a happy new year!

It’s interesting that I have been on that site lots of times, but never saw that the NattyWP is actually made by Ndesign Studio. It didn’t had a credit for that.
I’ll put up the credit asap. Thanks for telling me.

I feel the same way as you about commenting a lot of times. Sometimes I feel bad, but if I don’t like a site’s design, or the blog ahsn’t been updated in more than two weeks, what’s the use of me commenting? Of course, there are the people who I DO always comment, because I always find their blogs interesting.

Anyway, about splash pages. I used to have one, like 4 years ago. But that’s when EVERYONE had them. I got over it. And plus, I’m not hosted anymore, so I don’t have the option of really having a splash. I think they’re kind of a waste, anyway.

I don’t think validation is all it’s cracked up to be. I test my site in IE 6 & 7, Firefox, Opera and Safari. Only my css is validated. The rest… oh well! It doesn’t affect my site. I just have too many old entries from 2004 using deprecated tags and such, so I can’t go through and edit those just because some organization recommends it. People just need to learn how to code and code right, and everything will work. I’ve seen too many “validated” sites that don’t work in all browsers. Some workarounds are not valid, so you can’t really use some hacks (needed for IE 6 of course) to make it cross-browser. There are lots of reasons I’m in no rush to be valid I guess.

But yeah, splash pages are ugly and annoying, so it’s nice to know there are even more reasons to hate them, lol.
