You probably saw lots of websites in your life. Some of them had ugly layouts and they gave you a very unprofessional impression. I’ve clicked on the “X” lots of times, because I couldn’t trust in the information, since the sites looked so childish. First impression counts a lot!
Oh, my unprofessional designs
What am I talking about? Even I made that kind of layouts. Now I laugh, but in that time I thought they are the greatest designs ever. After making the connection of my art classes and website design, I’ve realized that there are some things that can make them look very nice.
Black and white
First thing that you always have to have is a very bright and a very dark color. These colors make the contrast and give the shininess and professional look of your website. Of course, there are other things that can destroy that “professional look”, but we will get there at the Part 2 of “How to pick the color for your website”. The very bright should be appropriate with the #FFFFF(white) and the dark one, of course, with the #000000(black) color.
You must use the dark and the bright on the writing part. There is a mistake that I saw on lots of websites:
People think, if they write with different colors, but the same darkness or brightness, their visitors can easily read what they wrote. Hell no! Just read a text that it’s not written by you and has different colors, but same brightness(or darkness), like this one. If you put that image on the Grayscale, you will see nothing( example2: Dark and different colors, Grayscale)
Everytime you are in doubt about the colors, just make a print screen and desaturate it. The more lightener(or darkener) is your background from your fonts, the easier is to read it.
Suggest it
You don’t have to use from both colors too much in your designs. You can use only one of them a lot, probably the one that you like more and just “suggest” a little with the other. In the layout for my blog I’ve used more light colors, but that little brown brush behind the logo gives all the class for my layout.
She has experience
I’m not a webdesigner, but I did lots of designs for my websites, so I know my mistakes and you can learn from them. Some tricks are always good to be known.
