I am not a parent and not so far ago I’ve been a teen too. But I saw enough. My friends failing and growing. With some of them I’m still hanging out, others moved in different countries or just became distant after a while.
Some of the parents of my friends didn’t cared at all about them. Some of them cared too much and didn’t let them breath. Both sides are bad, but not caring at all is worst. It’s like having no parents. Too much liberty is not healthy. Teens need limits and some of them make stupid things just for attention and wishing that maybe their parents will remember that they are not buddies with that teen, they are the PARENTS.
Too much liberty
Most of those teens of which their parents didn’t cared about, became addicted to alcohol. I only heard news about one of them, and now he is working hard in a different country. Fortunately, his mom saw that he has problems, so she took him to work with her. She gave that attention which he needed desperately.
One of the girls became a prostitute. And she was 14 or 15 years old . Her parents were never there to help, her grandmother was quite old, so she made some big mistakes. But after growing she understood that this is not the life that she wanted, also, she came to apologize because of talking shit about us behind our back. But for our friendship was too late.
Limited parents, limited mind
At the other part, those friends that couldn’t breath because their parents gave too much attention: are too limited. They were influenced by their parents and now they can’t think by themselves. Parents dreams become their dreams. Only if they will live alone, far away from their home, they can understand what did Einstein meant to say with:
Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.
